MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) Lawyers for a Georgia man accused of intentionally leaving his toddler son in a hot SUV to die want a judge to toss some of the evidence police gathered.
Police say Justin Ross Harris left 22-month-old Cooper in an SUV on a hot day in June 2014. Harris faces multiple charges, including murder, and has been held without bond since the day his son died. The case is set for trial in February.
Harris' attorneys have called the death a tragic accident.
News media outlets quote attorneys for Harris as saying police went on a ``fishing expedition,'' applying for overly broad warrants. The lawyers asked the judge to exclude evidence obtained in those searches.
Prosecutors countered that the warrants were reasonable and were based on voluntary statements made by Harris.
