PERRY, Ga. (AP) State wildlife officers are looking for whoever illegally shot and killed two black bears in Houston County.
Cpl. Robert Stillwell of the state Department of Natural Resources tells WMAZ-TV the bears were found last week in a pecan orchard off Highway 224. He says one bear was found dead in a tree. The other was dragged into some woods about 125 yards away.
Stillwell says the bears, both males, were shot on the weekend of Dec. 5-6 about a week before the state's one-day season for hunting black bears, on Dec. 12.
He says the bears appear to have been killed "just for fun.''
Stillwell says whoever killed the bears probably faces misdemeanor charges. Anyone with information on the case can call the state's Ranger Hotline at 800-241-4113.
