GAINESVILLE - Damage caused by the recent streak of rainy weather has lead to the closure of some roads in the Northeast Georgia portions of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest.
According to a media release from Judy Toppins with the U.S. Forest Service's Southern Region, sections of two roadways have been cloed by authorities, while a section of a third roadway has been deemed unsafe for travel.
In Fannin County, Forest Service Road 64 is temporarily closed between Potato Patch and Jacks River Fields Campground, while Forest Service Road 18/County Road 299 in Murray County is closed at Holly Creek.
No word was given on the exact reason for the closures.
The release also said the the entirety of Forest Service Road 70, also known as Tallulah River Road, in Rabun County is unsafe for travel.
Toppins encourages anyone visiting to "use extreme caution when travelling within the national forest, as recent weather conditions may present flooding, downed trees, road wash-outs, and mudslides."
