CUMMING - Forsyth County Sheriff's Office investigators are searching for two suspects in connection with a burglary that left a homeowner with multiple gunshot wounds Monday morning.

Deputy Doug Rainwater said the female homeowner apparently surprised the suspects at her house on Pilgrim Mill Road at Magnolia Avenue just after 10:30 a.m.

"When we arrived we found her [the homeowner] - she had been shot more than once," said Rainwater.

Rainwater said the homeowner managed to retrieve a weapon she had in the home, and she fired on the two suspects, a black man and a black woman.

"Once she was shot, I believe that's when she returned fire," said Rainwater.

He said he was unsure if either of the suspects was hit during the altercation. Right now, investigators are looking for the suspects.

"We have no vehicle description at this time. We are canvassing the neighborhood to see if we can find somebody that may have seen them drive in or drive out," said Rainwater.

As far as the condition of the victim, Rainwater said she was conscious when she was transported from the scene, but as of 12:30 p.m., he did not have an update on how she was doing.
