WINDER - Once July rolls around, Barrow Regional Medical Center will no longer offer labor and delivery services for patients.
"Georgia Health News" reported recently that the Winder hospital will close the unit because so few expectant mothers are using the services. The publication said the hospital has delivered fewer than 115 babies per year over the last three years.
“We made this decision so we can focus on other areas that are doing well and will benefit the community more,’’ said Chad Conner, BRMC's marketing director.
Conner told the publication that most women expecting babies use hospitals outside of Barrow County for labor and delivery.
Emanuel County Hospital in east-central Georgia also plans to close down its baby delivery unit.
