ATLANTA - New claims for unemployment insurance in Georgia were down three percent in March, with Savannah, Valdosta and Gainesville leading the way.
State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said last week claims were down in all but five of the state's 14 metropolitan areas.
The number of applications declined 32.4 percent in Savannah compared to March 2014, 27.1 percent in Valdosta and 20.6 percent in Gainesville.
At the bottom of the list were Atlanta, with an increase of 1.6 percent, Brunswick, where they were up 14.7 percent and Dalton with an increase of 47.2 percent.
Athens recorded a 13.1 percent decline.
