ATLANTA (AP) The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is reminding people to wear life jackets during the boating season.
The agency says Saturday marks the start of "Georgia Safe Boating Week.''
They say boaters also should follow state and local rules and laws on waterways, which include staying 100 feet away from people or objects in the water unless moving at idle speed.
The DNR also warns against drinking alcohol while boating and says it is a leading cause of incidents. In 2014, nine of the state's 12 fatal boating incidents involved alcohol.
