Fatal shooting under investigation in Buford

BUFORD - Gwinnett County police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Friday afternoon in the northern end of the county.
 
According to Cpl. Michele Pihera, the Public Information Officer for the Gwinnett County Police Department, the department received a 9-1-1 call at 4:43 p.m. that indicated a male had been shot at an apartment in Buford.
 
Officers from the Northern Precinct were then dispatched to the apartment on Hartford Run near Buford Highway.
 
"When our officers got there, they discovered a black male laying just inside the threshold of the home who appeared to have been shot multiple times," Pihera said.
 
The victim's name is being withheld at this time pending notification of next-of-kin.
 
Following a protective sweep of the home to ensure no other victims were present, the county's Homicide and Crime Scene Units were called to the residence to being their investigation.
 
Pihera continued: "Detectives received a search warrant shortly after they arrived, and once they got inside they discovered that there were multiple handguns inside the home, but it's unclear at this time whether or not any one of those handguns was the murder weapon."
