By Bryan Pirkle Reporter
CUMMING - One man is dead and another in jail following a fatal stabbing incident in Forsyth County early Sunday morning.

Deputies with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a single-wide trailer in Cumming off Kerr Road, according to Deputy Robin Regan.

"Deputies got the call just after midnight this morning that a domestic dispute had turned into a stabbing," said Regan. "When deputies got on scene they discovered Truitt Cheely, a 48-year-old male...he had several stab wounds and a laceration on his body."

Cheely had received the wounds during an altercation with 57-year-old Donald Griffin. Both men, who were reported to be roomates, are from Cumming.

Regan said Cheely was transported to Northside Hospital Forsyth, where, despite the best efforts of emergency workers, hedied from his wounds.

Griffin was apparently still on the premises when officers arrived.

"[He] was arrested on scene...he was charged with murder," Regan added.

Griffin was later taken to the Forsyth County Detention Center where he remained in custody at last report.

According to detectives, Cheely is believed to have been stabbed with a kitchen knife, although the investigation is ongoing at this time.

It is unknown at this time what the men were arguing about when the stabbing occurred.
