CLARKESVILLE— The nursing program at North Georgia Technical College has been expanded with the addition of the Registered Nursing Program on the college's Blairsville campus.
In a recent press statement, college officials said the Georgia Board of Nursing unanimously approved the expansion of the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) Degree on March 30. The ASN program has been offered at North Georgia Tech's Clarkesville campus since fall semester 2013.
The two year associate level nursing program prepares students for positions in the nursing profession. The curriculum is designed to produce highly-trained, technically-advanced, competent and caring individuals who are prepared to practice professional nursing in a variety of healthcare settings. The nurse is viewed as a caring, holistic person who possesses critical-thinking/problem-solving skills, integrity, accountability, a theoretical knowledge base, refined psychomotor skills and a commitment to life-long learning.
“We are excited about this opportunity and look forward to answering student and community demands in this area,” said NGTC Dean for Academic Affairs Mindy Glander. “NGTC’s Health Science faculty and staff are working to update the Associate of Science Degree in Nursing Program Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and the Associate of Science Degree in Nursing Program Intent Form to include the Blairsville Campus and this information will soon be available on the college website.”
To be eligible to participate in the competitive admissions process for the Spring 2016 Blairsville ASN cohort, several college core courses must be completed with a GPA of 3.0 or better.
Program graduates receive an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) degree. Graduates are eligible to apply and take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Upon successful completion of the NCLEX-RN and licensure by the Georgia Board of Nursing, graduates are employable as registered nurses in a variety of settings.
Students interested in the Spring 2016 Blairsville ASN program may apply for admission now and will be placed in the Healthcare Science certificate program upon acceptance to the college. Students will be required to complete the ASN Intent Form which will be available on the college website beginning May 20th and will be accepted through July 30, 2015.
