By Ken Stanford

CUMMING - Lula and Flowery Branch are not the only places in northeast Georgia where special elections will be held June 16 - two will be held in Forsyth County.

In one instance, voters will be trying to decide on a new District 24 State Representative. Five people, all Republicans, are vying for the unexpired term of Mark Hamilton, who has resigned. They are: Sheri Smallwood Gilligan, Will Kremer, Ethan Underwood, and David Van Sant. According to the Forsyth County Elections Office, about 33,000 people in the county are eligible to vote in the election. Hamilton resigned because he is moving out of state.

Meanwhile, voters in the City of Cumming will find four names on the ballot as they seek to elect a replacement for longtime city councilman Rupert Sexton. They are: Roger Crow, Linda Ledbetter, Julie Tressler and Chuck Welch, Junior. Party affiliation is not listed on the ballot. Sexton had held the post more than 40 years before resigning in April while facing possible impeachment in a dispute over the distribution of city employee personal information on social media.

Lula and Flowery Branch will also be hold special elections to fill vacancies on their city councils.
