GAINESVILLE — Saying it will save money for the city and make it easier on taxpayers, the city of Gainesville plans to send out only one tax bill this year.
Tax Coordinator Dee Dee Stephens made the announcement in a Monday press release.
"One billing will allow us to save money on the cost of preparing the bills and additional postage. Installment payments will still be accepted. This annual billing is now possible because we have new software that is compatible with Hall County’s tax system," Stephens said.
Stephens said more than 12,000 tax bills will go in the mail by late September. The taxes will be due on or before December 1, depending on the completion of the billing process.
The 2015 tax revenue for the City of Gainesville is $10.2 million for general government, debt service, and parks and recreation. Of the $10.2 million, 32% is paid by residential, 68% commercial and industrial. The City of Gainesville also bills for the school system which consists of 71% of the total tax bill.
The tax office is open Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to assist customers in estimating 2015 taxes. For more information call the tax office at 770-535-5639.
