Ga. man told to remove NRA hat at polls agrees to drop lawsuit

ATLANTA (AP) A Douglas County man has agreed to dismiss a lawsuit against the county and election officials after the election board adopted a new policy.

Bundy Cobb in December filed a federal lawsuit saying his civil rights were violated when a poll worker asked him to remove his National Rifle Association hat when he went to vote.

Cobb says election officials told him the NRA is seen as being associated with the Republican party, so the hat could be considered an illegal campaign material.

An agreement submitted Monday for a judge's approval says the Douglas County Board of Elections and Registration adopted an amended policy saying clothing or other materials that refer to a person, organization or viewpoint on an issue that's not currently on the ballot will not be prohibited.
