GAINESVILLE — Charges have now been filed against the driver in a crash that killed a Gainesville teenager a week ago.
The Georgia State Patrol confirmed 19-year-old Marco Cruz has been charged with second degree vehicular homicide and failure to maintain lane in the July 2 crash on Atlanta Highway in Chicopee.
The victim, 15-year-old Alfredo Juarez, was a passenger in Cruz' vehicle. Juarez suffered fatal injuries when Cruz lost control of his vehicle, spun out in the road and then crashed into a tree.
At the time of the crash, investigating troopers said both teens were wearing seat belts. Alcohol and drugs were not believed to be factors. It was raining at the time of the accident, according to the accident report.
