CUMMING - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation detonated what is believed to be a Civil War-era cannonball in Forsyth County earlier this week, and it's not the first time this summer.
Deputy Epifano Rodriguez told the Georgia News Network that someone called the Sheriff's Office, saying they believed they had found a Civil War-era cannonball.
Rodriguez said deputies called in the GBI. "They went out there, confiscated it, made it safe and then detonated it up in the north end of county off Old Federal Road," said Rodriguez.
Similarly, a few weeks ago, Rodriguez says another cannon ball was found and later detonated in a different area of the county by the GBI.
"I've been here 11 years, and this is the first time I've heard of anything along these lines," Rodriguez told the Georgia News Network. "This is not something that happens daily, or is an every day occurrence."
