The chances of Kyle Busch making the Chase for the Sprint Cup got even better Sunday afternoon, as Busch scored his third victory in the last four NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races with a win at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Busch inherited the lead when the other leaders came to pit road on lap 253, and he led the rest of the way to score the win. But the key move that opened the door to victory came just before those pit stops, when Busch made a gutsy pass on leader Kevin Harvick and second place Brad Keselowski to get himself back on the lead lap.
Keselowski would try to run Busch down over the closing laps, but had to settle for third in the end, with Joey Logano in fourth and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. in fifth.
Afterwards, Busch spoke to the media about the pass and about his current win streak. We also heard from his team owner, Coach Joe Gibbs, along with an exhausted Brad Keselowski and Earnhardt, Jr.
Meanwhile, Saturday produced one of the most talked about moments of the race weekend, when Denny Hamlin nudged Austin Dillon out of the lead and drove to the victory in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
The move came on lap 179 of the 200 lap race, when Hamlin drove to the inside and slipped up into Dillon, breaking Dillon's momentum and letting Hamlin take the lead. It was the second contact of the race for Hamlin, who had tangled early on with teammate Kyle Busch, sending Hamlin sliding across the track.
Afterwards, we heard from both Hamlin and Dillon, along with fifth place finisher Daniel Suarez, Jr.
Now all eyes turn to Speedway, Indiana, home of the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where both the Sprint Cup and Xfinity drivers will battle to add their names to the list of winners at the legendary Brickyard. WDUN will have live coverage of the entire weekend’s action.
