JOHNS CREEK — Authorities say a man who was the object of an hours-long search on the Chattahoochee River Monday night was found safe at his home Tuesday morning.
The Atlanta-Journal Constitution reported the man - whose name was not released - made his way out of the river and went home.
The man was swimming with four friends Monday evening when the five became stranded on an island at the Chattahoochee Recreational Area at Barnwell Road. They apparently noticed the water in the river was rising, so the five tried to swim back to the river bank. Four of them made it to shore, but the fifth man was not with the others.
Rescue personnel from Gwinnett County, John's Creek and Roswell conducted Monday night's search for the missing man.
No other details have been released.
