CLEVELAND - A White County High School student is safe after being retrieved from a tree Monday morning.
According to school officials, the male student had some emotional issues going on and ran off the school campus around 10 a.m.
The student ran across the road and climbed up a tree.
Fire, medical and law enforcement personnel were dispatched, primarily in reference to the student's safety.
"You know you never know when somebody is a little emotionally distraught and some issues are going on," said White County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jeff Wilson.
"It worked out great," Wilson said. "We'll make sure that the kid is taken care of and appreciate everybody's hard work."
After about an hour and a half of school officials and others talking with the youth, School Resource Officer Brent Maddox climbed up the Cleveland Fire Department ladder truck and persuaded him to come down.
Wilson said the school resource officer spent a lot of time with the young man.
After he was safely on the ground, the student was taken inside a White County Emergency Medical Services ambulance for evaluation.
