GAINESVILLE - Members of the Newtown Florist Club and local law enforcement will be on hand Thursday, August 27 to discuss racial profiling.
The meeting, which is free and open to the public, is at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Summit Street in Gainesville at 6:00 p.m.
"As a part of our program, Newtown has established a criminal justice reform project. And what we really want to spend the next couple of years doing is going through a process of engaging 'teachable moment opportunities' that encourage community dialogue about potential tension issues," said Rose Johnson, Executive Director of Newtown.
She hopes that will help to improve community relations across the board.
"This racial profiling conversation begins a series of community conversations that we will have throughout the year on topics related to criminal justice," said Johnson.
Law enforcement, including representatives from the Hall County Sheriff's Office, Hall County Solicitor's Office, Public Defender's Office, Oakwood Police Dept., Flowery Branch Police Dept. and Gainesville Police Dept. will be on hand to take part in the discussion.
"We encourage community participation, (including) those who would like to just come out and listen, or be a part of it," said Johnson.
St. Paul UMC is located at 705 Hunter St. SE, Gainesville, just off Athens Hwy.
