Applications remain open for Suwanee Fest parade; volunteers needed

By Brian Stewart

SUWANEE - Spots are still open for the Suwanee Fest parade, and organizers are still in need of volunteers, according to City Spokeswoman Lynne DeWilde.

"Parade applications are available until September 9," said DeWilde.

The festival's theme this year is "For the Love of Suwanee." There is no fee to apply, but DeWilde said there is an "entertainment requirement."

Businesses are not allowed to march in the parade unless they provide some form of entertainment, otherwise they will be charged a fee.

"If organizations are interested in applying for a spot in the parade, they can apply at SuwaneeFest.com on the 'parade' page," said DeWilde.

Cash prizes are awarded in several categories, including Most Creative, Most Entertaining and Best Reflection of Theme.

"We have a panel of judges watching the parade and selecting the winners," said DeWilde.

The festival brings 50,000 people to the Suwanee Town Center Park over the two-day period, which runs September 19 and 20.

"There's just no way we could do it without some fantastic volunteers," said DeWilde.

"We will be very grateful, and give (volunteers) a cool Suwanee Fest t-shirt."

Volunteer registration is also at SuwaneeFest.com; DeWilde said organizers need around 100 more volunteers to help the festival run smoothly.

The parade is the festival's "kickoff" at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, September 19.
