For the second straight year, Joey Logano scored the win in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series IRWIN Tools Night race Saturday night at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Logano had to hold off a very strong Kevin Harvick, who could pull up to Logano’s back bumper going into the turns, only to see the reigning Daytona 500 winner pull away off the turns.
Both drivers darted through lapped traffic over the final laps, but Harvick could not make the congestion work in his favor. Logano led 143 of the final 147 laps en route to his third victory of the season.
Polesitter Denny Hamlin finished in third, followed by Jimmie Johnson in fourth and Clint Bowyer in fifth.
Afterwards, Logano talked about the victory, as did his crew chief, Todd Gordon. Harvick and Hamlin also spoke to members of the media.
The NASCAR Xfinity Series was also in action at Bristol Motor Speedway over the weekend. Kyle Busch has won several races since his return to the cockpit this year, but on Friday night he flat stole one.
When leader Chris Buescher stumbled on the final restart while running low on fuel, Busch pounced, powering to the lead and driving away for his the victory at the Tennessee half-mile.
Busch’s win is the 73rd of his career and his eighth-career Bristol victory in the Xfinity Series, both tops among active drivers. Busch talked about his night afterwards, along with second place finisher Kyle Larson and fifth place finisher Daniel Suarez.
While the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series has the weekend off, the Xfinity Series will be in full swing, as the drivers travel to the fast 4 mile long, 14 turn road course in Elkhart Lake, Wis. WDUN will have live MRN Radio coverage of Saturday's Road American 180 beginning at 2:30 pm on 102.9 FM.
