TEXT OF WINNING ESSAY
Preserving the Trees!
By John Tran
5th Grader, Enota MI Academy
I am John and I speak for the trees. Trees provide oxygen (O2) and take in carbon dioxide (Co2) that humans breathe out into the environment. Trees also help stop pollution (greenhouse gases) that humans produce and help protect the Ozone Layer of the Earth’s atmosphere before entering space. If humans produce too much greenhouse gases and if we don’t have trees we would break the Ozone Layer which protects us from the Sun’s ultraviolet rays of light which some of it is dangerous for humans and animals. If the Ozone Layer gets even more damaged over the years, it could cause more global warming.
Trees provide shelter for many animals such as birds, squirrels, and other animals which trees are the animals habitat. Some trees grow fruit which contains natural sugars in a diet for humans. Some examples are apples, oranges, and other fruits. Trees also provide humans shade (protection) from the Sun. They are also indicators of what season it is on that time of year.
Trees also provide homes for other living organisms like ferns, mosses, and other organisms. They have loads of different products that use trees like paper, hardwood, and other wood using products. They provide scenery and beauty to the environment. That is why humans have to preserve trees for future generations.
