Expanding sewer service, looking for locations for new fire stations on Hall Co. agenda for new year

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

Expanding sewer service and seeking sites for two new fire stations are among major projects on the horizon for Hall County this year.

Those were just two of the goals for the new year included in a state-of-the-county power point presentation prepared for county commissioner Scott Gibbs for a meeting of the Conservative Forum at Hall County Republican Headquarters.

Also included was a look back at some of the county's accomplishments in 2015.  Click here http://www.hallcounty.org/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=226 for that information.

According to Saturday's prepared presentation, the county will be exploring providing sewer service to more areas in South Hall and along the Georgia 365 corridor north of Gainesville from Whitehall Road to Georgia 52. It was noted that "because of the potential for economic development along this (the 365) corridor, sewer will be the driver of this prime real estate for development."

In addition, the county will be looking for potential sites for two new fire stations, the 17th and 18th for the fire department, while planning for a replacement facility for station #1.  More upgrades of the 911 system are in the works - including a new radio system and 911 software.   An upgrade of the 911 center's phone system was completed last year.

The county's new correctional institute is scheduled to open this month or early next month, replacing a 53-year-old facility.

It's time for another update of the county's Comprehensive Plan, something that needs to be finished by June 2017.  The presentation noted that 'major land use changes and patterns (have) occurred since (the) last (update)."  The county expects to hire a consultant this month to facilitate that project.
