The city of Gainesville is now searching for a new city solicitor after Tuesday night's official resignation by attorney John Breakfield.
Breakfield told city council members at their regular meeting that he needed to step down because he's running for State Court Judge and he didn't want any perception of a conflict of interest.
Gainesville City Manager Brian Lackey said they'll look for a replacement right away.
"There have already been some discussion as we knew John would be coming forward tonight," said Lackey. "I don't have a definite timetable, but I do expect that we'll be moving quickly."
Breakfield said he'll stay on the job through the end of the month. The Assistant City Solicitor Anne Bishop has taken on Breakfield's cases in the interim.
