Lake Lanier's annual Polar Bear Plunge was canceled on Jan. 1 when torrential rains brought debris into the lake. Now, the event has been rescheduled.
The Lanier Canoe & Kayak Club announced the 19th annual event will be held on Saturday, Feb. 6, with the first jump taking place at noon. The event is a major fundraiser for club programs.
Organizers had to cancel the event on New Year's Day when Lake Lanier reached such high levels, the docks at the venue were covered with water. Heavy rains had also pushed dangerous debris into the area, so the group decided it would not be safe for jumpers.
Organizers said the theme for this year's Plunge is “Polar Bear if you dare…Chicken if you scare…either way a t-shirt to show you care.”
Prizes will be awarded in a variety of categories.
The venue for the Polar Bear Plunge is Clarks Bridge Park, 3105 Clarks Bridge Road, Gainesville, GA 30506.
Complete event information is available at www.lckc.org. Online registration is now open. On-site registration and check-in opens at 10:45 a.m. the day of the event.
