Hall County Animal Control reports first rabies case of 2016

By AccessWDUN Staff
The first confirmed rabies case for 2016 in Hall County occurred in the East Hall area, according the animal control officials.

They say two dogs had contact recently with a rabid raccoon in the Cape Road area. The raccoon was shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab- Virology Section in Decatur. Hall County Animal Control was advised Thursday that the raccoon tested positive for rabies.

As with all confirmed cases of rabies, county animal control officials have placed rabies alert signs in the area where the infected animal was caught. Officials said if anyone who lives in the area sees an animal acted in an abnormal manner, they should contact Hall County Animal Services at 770-531-6830 or call Hall County Dispatch at 770-536-8812 during non-working hours.

Animal owners are encouraged to vaccinate their domesticated pets for rabies. Vaccines are available at the Hall County Animal Shelter for $10 Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 1688 Barber Road, Gainesville.
