Forsyth County superintendent places principal on leave for offensive social media posts

By B.J. Williams

The principal of a high school in Forsyth County has been placed on a temporary leave of absence because of some posts on his personal Facebook page.

Gary Davison is the principal at Lambert High, the newest high school in the Forsyth County School District. Davison met with Superintendent Jeff Bearden to discuss the social media posts, according to a statement on the school's website. After the meeting, Davison was placed on administrative leave.

While Bearden did not offer specifics on the content of the social media posts, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported that the messages were "racially divisive and disparaging."

"Our school district values all individuals and does not tolerate discrimination," Bearden said in his written statement. "The school district is also committed to assessing its ongoing efforts with staff and students to celebrate the diversity of our community and promote acceptance of everyone."

Davison also issued a written apology, which appears on the school website, as well.

"I humbly apologize to the current and former students of Lambert HS, their parents, the school staff and our community for the shared posts on my personal Facebook.  I offended many individuals and embarrassed our school. I ask for your forgiveness. I have learned a valuable lesson from these mistakes and I am committed to regaining our community’s trust."

While Davison is on leave, Assistant Principal Pam Bibik has been assigned as acting principal at Lambert.
