COMMERCE — Towns County came to play on Friday night -- but Commerce was in no mood for an upset.
The Tigers found themselves trailing the visiting Indians 20-14 after the first quarter -- only to respond with six unanswered touchdowns in a 56-20 win in Commerce.
Cole Chancey led the Commerce fightback, scoring five touchdowns -- including two on defense -- while also rushing 10 times for 135 yards. Will Thomas also rushed for 130 yards on eight carries. Lane Sorrow also added a four-yard touchdown run and connected with Tyree Ware on a 9-yard scoring pass. Austin Brock tallied the other Tigers (6-2, 5-2 Region 8-A) touchdown.
Kobe Denton got things going for Towns County with an 80-yard touchdown run in the first quarter for a 6-0 lead. Chancey countered with a 44-yard scoring jaunt, only to be one-upped by a three yard touchdown plunge from Trent Bradshaw, as the two teams traded blows in the first quarter.
Sorrow's touchdown pass made it 14-12 Commerce, but Russell Cox exploded for a 58-yard scoring run, which -- along with a 2-point pass -- gave the Indians (2-6, 1-6) a 20-14 lead.
It did not last long, however, as the Tigers ran away for the victory.
