UPDATE: Investigators search for cause of 3-alarm fire at North Hall County home

By Bryan Pirkle Reporter

Hall County firefighters remained on the scene of a 3-alarm residential fire in the northern end of the county until late in the night Monday.

Crews were dispatched to the scene in the 4600 block of Shoreline Drive off Harold Whelchel Road at 7:40 p.m. Monday, where, according to Hall County Fire Services Capt. Zach Brackett, they discovered a 10,000-square-foot home with "heavy smoke showing from the attic."

Brackett said that the occupants of the home had already made it outside the building by the time firefighters arrived on scene; he added that no injuries had been reported.

Due to the size of the home and the severity of the fire, a tanker truck from Lumpkin County was dispatched to the scene as part of a pre-existing mutual aid agreement.

Late in the evening, Brackett sent an email update, noting that transporting water to the fire was a challenge.

"The water supply for this incident was a combination of fire engines and tankers traveling to a fire hydrant that is approximately ½-3/4 miles from the driveway of the residence and depositing that water into a drop tank. Another engine is then picking up that water from the drop tank and pumping it down the driveway through a large diameter hose to a fire engine that is actually putting water on the fire," Brackett wrote. "Only water taken from a fire hydrant was utilized during this incident."

At this point, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
