The Gainesville School Board is now advertising the opening for the school system's superintendent job.
In a press statement emailed Monday morning, the Board announced a tentative timeline for the process, saying the deadline for accepting applications will be February 3, 2017.
"Vacancy announcements have been mailed to all school districts in Georgia and to all Georgia RESAs. The vacancy is posted on the websites of the school system, the Georgia School Boards Association, the Georgia School Superintendents Association and the search firm, King-Cooper and Associates," the statement read.
Saying that the Board believes a slower schedule will produce "the best possible outcome," the statement further notes that board members will spend the month of January surveying survey school governance councils, community members, and employees to design a profile for the superintendent's post. Interviews are expected to begin in March.
"The Board chose to not establish a fixed number of interviews to conduct until the applicant pool is reviewed. While the timeline is flexible, the Board hopes to announce one, two, or three finalists for the position near the end of March and to make the final selection and complete the process by mid-April," the statement read.
King-Cooper and Associates, will receive and process all applications, research all applicants for the Board, handle all communications with applicants, and present all information on all applicants for the Board’s consideration.
Dr. Wanda Creel, who was hired as superintendent in December 2013, announced in September she would resign at the end of her contract next year.
