ATLANTA (AP) Funeral arrangements have been made for a well-known suburban Atlanta police officer who was gunned down as he helped other officers serve a ``no knock'' warrant in a drug case.
Local news media reported Sunday that the funeral for Maj. Greg Barney will be held Feb. 20 at Saint Philip AME Church in Atlanta. The public visitation will be held Feb. 19 at a funeral home in Decatur.
Barney was shot while helping Clayton County officers serve a search warrant at an apartment complex in Riverdale, south of Atlanta's airport. Police say Riverdale officers, including Barney, were guarding the perimeter while Clayton County police entered the apartment.
Jerand Ross is charged with murder in the shooting death of Barney. The 24-year-old Ross was wounded in the gun battle, but expected to survive.
