Barrow County man charged with shooting, killing wife

By B.J. Williams
A Barrow County man is in jail, charged with the murder of his wife at their home in Bethlehem over the weekend.

Sheriff's Captain Matt Guthas said authorities got a 911 call just after midnight Sunday from Kevin Harrison, 36, stating that his wife had been accidentally shot. Guthas said deputies arrived at the scene quickly.

"Our deputies arrived on the scene within four minutes of the 911 call and secured the residence," Guthas said.

He said Heather Marrie Harrison, 29, was taken to the hospital, but died a few hours later from a gunshot wound to her head.

"We spent the bulk of the day yesterday interviewing witnesses and processing the scene," said Guthas. "At the end of the day, our investigation was able to determine that her husband...had shot her in the head post an argument that they had had."

Guthas did not say what led to the argument, but he said investigators are continuing to interview witnesses to see what might have prompted the deadly incident.

The victim had two children, according to Guthas, a 9-year-old and a 2-year-old. The 2-year-old, whose father is Kevin Harrison, was home at the time of the shooting. Guthas said the two siblings are in the custody of a family member.

Guthas said Kevin Harrison remains in the Barrow County Detention Center on charges of aggravated assault, felony murder, murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
