While most voters across North Georgia had only to make a decision on a presidential candidate during Tuesday's primary elections, there were four counties that posed penny sales tax questions to residents.
In all four of those counties, the sales tax measures passed overwhelmingly.
Voters in Banks and Jackson counties were asked to decide on both SPLOST and E-LOST measures, while Elbert County and Franklin County voters decided on E-LOST questions.
In Banks County, 70% of voters said yes to continuation of the sales tax, which should raise $15 million over a five-year time frame. Sixty-nine percent of voters approved an extension of a sales tax for education. The E-LOST will raise not more than $19 million for Banks County Schools.
Jackson County voters said yes to a SPLOST extension that should generate $55.5 million dollars for public projects; that vote was 73% yes, 31% no. An extension of Jackson County's E-LOST also got a thumbs up from voters with 69% approval. The extension will raise an estimated $100 million for Jackson County schools.
Elbert County voters approved a $14.4 million E-LOST extension; the vote was 61% yes, 39% no.
Franklin County voters okayed an E-LOST for their school system with a 64% to 36% vote. The penny sales tax should generate about $20 million.
