A former congressman announced Wednesday morning he will run again for Congress, this time challenging 9th District Congressman Doug Collins of Gainesville.
Republican Paul Broun,who represented Georgia's 10th District from July 2007 to January 2015, made his announcement on WDUN's Morning Talk.
Broun, who has has relocated to Habersham County from Oconee County, said he has been encouraged for quite awhile to make another run for Congress.
"I've had conservatives all over this district for almost a year now encouraging me to run because they know that I have represented half of the counties of this district. This is every bit my district as it is Doug Collins',"
said Broun.
Broun said Collins has become part of "the Washington establishment," and that is why he is challenging a fellow Republican.
"I have the values of the 9th congressional district," Broun said. "Doug Collins has the values of John Boehner, Paul Ryan, Washington, D.C."
Two other candidates have said they will run against Collins in the May 24 General Primary. As of Wednesday morning, Republican Roger Fitzpatrick of White County is the only challenger who had filed qualifying paperwork for the election. Collins has also qualified to run for re-election.
