With April 6, 2016 marking the 80th anniversary of the deadliest tornado in Gainesville history, Mayor Danny Dunagan has asked that all city flags be flown at half-staff in memory of the victims.
A total of 203 people perished in the tornado that hit downtown Gainesville the morning of April 6, 1936, included 70 who were killed at the Cooper Pants Factory.
Dunagan asked at Tuesday afternoon's Gainesville City Council meeting that flags be lowered to half-staff from 8 a.m. to sunset on Wednesday.
