Investigators think a fire that destroyed a mobile home in Lumpkin County - and led to the deaths of two young children - started on the front porch of the residence, but they still don't know the exact cause of the fire.
Insurance and Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens issued a statement on the deadly fire early Tuesday morning.
"This fire originated on the front porch and burned into the interior of the home," Hudgens said. "Investigators could not rule out careless smoking as the possible cause."
Hudgens added that the fire does not appear suspicious.
Authorities said the fire happened around 4:15 p.m. Monday at #93 Rider Road Spur in Dawsonville, which is located in Lumpkin County. Noah Gaydon, 2, and his sister Kaylee Gaydon, 1, died as a result of injuries sustained in the fire. Both children were rescued from the home with injuries and transported to area hospitals before being pronounced dead, according to authorities.
