Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway came down to a final restart with five laps to go.
Just as he had done all day, Carl Edwards jumped out on the final green flag, and went on to score his first win of the 2016 season, and the career fourth at Bristol.
Edwards dominated the event, leading 276 laps, more than any other driver on the day en route to his 26th career win.
Behind him, it was a mad scramble among the rest of the top five, with Dale Earnhardt, Jr. coming away with second. But in the end, nobody had anything for Edwards. Kurt Busch finished in third, with Chase Elliott in fourth and Trevor Bayne in fifth.
Afterwards, Edwards talked to the media about his race and the win. We also heard from Earnhardt, Jr. on how his race went.
For Dawsonville's Chase Elliott, it was a day that started strong, then went bad, then went good again. After starting in the 19th position, Elliott had worked his way into the top ten, only to see that run temporarily derailed by a loose wheel on lap 181. A green flag pit stop for a tire change left the 20-year-old two laps down.
Elliott would get back on the lead lap by taking the wave around under a lap 259 caution. He then raced his way back into contention, running as high as second late in the race before coming home in fourth position, his best career Sprint Cup Series finish.
Afterwards, Elliott talked to the media about his up and down day.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup and Xfinity series now head for their third short track race of the season, as both tours will do battle at Richmond International Raceway.
