DALLAS, Ga. (AP) Officials say an autopsy was being performed on a 3-year-old boy who accidentally shot himself in the chest with a gun that was inside his north Georgia home.
Sgt. Ashley Henson of the Paulding County Sheriff's Office said detectives traveled to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for Wednesday morning's autopsy. Results haven't been released yet.
Henson said deputies were called to the home in Dallas, Georgia, on Tuesday morning and found the boy with a gunshot wound. Henson says the deputies performed CRP and he was pronounced dead at WellStar Paulding Hospital.
The boy's father said in a 911 call that the gun had been in his book bag.
No charges have been filed.
