Arrest made at scene of Barrow County house fire

By AccessWDUN Staff

Barrow County authorities say a house that caught fire two times in a 12-hour time period was purposely set ablaze.

Fire Capt. Scott Dakin said in a Friday afternoon press release crews were first dispatched to the house on Atlanta Highway in Auburn around 3:15 p.m. Thursday.

“The caller reported that there may be a person trapped in the home” said Dakin. “Upon arrival of firefighters, they found a home with heavy fire in the rear of the structure, a vehicle on fire in the front of the structure and all occupants out of the structure.”

Dakin said the fire was quickly brought under control, but then firefighters got another call to the same address just after 3 a.m. Friday.

He said the house was heavily involved in fire, and firefighters were forced into defensive mode to contain the flames.

The Fire Investigation Team conducted an origin and cause investigation and determined the fire to be an intentional human act, according to Dakin.

He also said one person was arrested at the scene for making terroristic threats to EMS personnel. Dakin did not release that person's name.

Barrow County Sheriff's detectives are assisting with the investigation. They have been contacted for further details on the arrest.
