Jackson County elections officials to recount votes for commission chairmanship

By B.J. Williams
Jackson County elections officials will recount the votes that were cast in last week's Jackson County Commission Chairman's race.

The challenger for the post, Ben Stephens, has asked for the recount. He garnered just 9 votes fewer than incumbent Tom Crow in the May 24 primary. Election results showed Crow with 2,740 votes (50.08%) to Stephens' 2,731 votes (49.92).

Elections Director Lori Wurtz confirmed the recount via email. She said the process will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday at her office at 441 Gordon Street in Jefferson. She said the recount will take about three to four hours.
