Woman found dead at North Georgia campsite took her own life

By B.J. Williams

After a weekend investigation, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation determined a woman found deceased at a campsite in Fannin County on Saturday took her own life.

GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said in a press release that the investigation and an autopsy determined Chelsi Ann Ichrist, 26, had committed suicide.

Ichrist was found deceased Saturday at a campsite on Springer Mountain on the Appalachian Trail. She had most recently lived in South Carolina, according to investigators.

The GBI was called to assist the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Forestry Service with the death investigation.
