The city of Gainesville's budget for the upcoming fiscal year is now a done deal.
City Council members Tuesday evening gave final approval to the $33.5 million spending plan.
City Manager Bryan Lackey said after the meeting he is pleased with the fact that there's no tax increase in this year's budget.
"I'm thrilled with it being my first year here in Gainesville that we didn't have to go in that direction," said Lackey.
In addition, Lackey said he was happy to see funding for a much-need list of capital improvements for Gainesville.
"It shows the commitment of our council that they want to invest in our community," said Lackey.
Among the $14 million in planned improvements - streetscaping on Washington and Bradford Streets, relocation of Fire Station 2, a new roof for the Gainesville Civic Center and a number or road improvement projects.
The new budget goes into effect July 1.
