Rain pushes NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Pocono race to Monday

For the second straight race at Pocono Raceway, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series has been affected by Mother Nature.

Rain has postponed Sunday's Pennsylvania 400 to Monday morning.  Heavy rain showers moved through the Long Pond, Pa. area this morning, leaving the 2.5 mile triangle shaped speedway wet.

NASCAR officials used the Air Titan system, along with jet dryers and track sweepers to try to get the racing surface dry and ready for race conditions.  But when another strong band of showers came through just after 2:30 pm, race officials made the call to push the race back to 11 am Monday morning.

It's the same situation NASCAR faced back in June at Pocono, when rain on Sunday pushed the Sprint Cup Series to a Monday race, with Kurt Busch scoring the win.

Once the race gets underway Martin Truex, Jr. will bring the field down to the green flag from the pole position, with fellow Toyota driver Carl Edwards starting alongside.  Paul Menard will roll off third, with Denny Hamlin in fourth and Ryan Newman in fifth.

Tony Stewart, Brad Keselowski, Dawsonville, Georgia’s Chase Elliott. Defending race winner Matt Kenseth and Joey Logano rounds out the top ten starters.

WDUN will have live MRN Radio coverage of the race beginning at 10:45 am on 102.9 FM.
