ATHENS, Ga. (AP) Police say a 28-year-old man was fatally shot in downtown Athens in the city's second homicide of the year.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports (http://bit.ly/2b5FoAY ) the shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. Saturday in front of the Robert G. Stephens Federal Building. The victim wasn't a University of Georgia student.
Athens-Clarke County police Capt. Jerry Saulters told the newspaper there were no known witnesses, and investigators didn't immediately have any suspects. Police declined to release victim's name until his family is notified.
Saulters said several people who were nearby heard gunshots and saw a man running from the area but couldn't provide a description. Investigators were reviewing security camera footage.
The city's first homicide of the year came in April when a 28-year-old woman was stabbed to death in a homeless camp.
