Gainesville water department looking for customers owed refunds

By AccessWDUN Staff

The city of Gainesville's Department of Water Resources is looking for current and former customers who are due refunds from closed water accounts.

Tina Wetherford, Finance and Administration Division Manager, said the refunds total more than $27,000 and some date back several years.

“We have exhausted all efforts to get in touch with the customers on the list. We really hope some of these people will come forward so we can settle their accounts and not have to turn this money over to the state,” Wetherford said.

State regulations require unclaimed funds be turned over to state coffers.

A list of those due refunds has been posted on the city website www.gainesville.org. Go to Water Resources and then click on Unclaimed Water Refunds to see the list. If a customer finds his or her name, they should call the Department of Water Resources at
770-535-6878 or email [email protected].

The Department of Water Resources serves around 50,000 accounts, according to the city.
