North Georgia Technical College welcomed three new members to the board of directors at a recent meeting.

Mitchel Barrett, Barry Roberts and Ron Barden were installed during the August board of directors meeting held at the Currahee Campus near Toccoa. The monthly meeting included a special swearing in ceremony led by Judge Chan Caudell, who is also a member of the NGTC board.

Mitchel Barrett, from White County, is a retired educator with decades of experience as a teacher, coach, principal and superintendent.  He most recently was the superintendent for the Mountain Education State Charter School System.

Representing Stephens County, Barry Roberts is the Director of Operations at ASI Southeast in Toccoa.  Roberts has had a successful 20-year career in manufacturing in northeast Georgia including stints at Coats & Clark, Meadowbrook Machine and Tool, Global Partitions, and now ASI Southeast.

Ron Barden of Rabun County began his career in banking but worked for many years in higher education in executive technology support positions before retiring from Clayton State University as the Executive Director for the Office of Technology and Services. After retiring, he and his wife moved to Rabun County where they have busied themselves participating in the community and enjoying the great outdoors. Barden volunteers for many civic boards including Habitat for Humanity of Rabun and the Rabun Chamber of Commerce board.

President Mark Ivester welcomed the new board members and applauded their commitment to North Georgia Technical College. “I appreciate the willingness of Mr. Barrett, Mr. Roberts and Mr. Barden to serve on our board,” Ivester said. “I believe their expertise will benefit the college as we move forward. Their relationships within the community will serve to make the NGTC community ties even stronger.”

The eight-member board includes a representative from each of the eight counties NGTC serves.
