ATLANTA (AP) — The Georgia state director for the Donald J. Trump campaign has resigned after his criminal past was revealed.
According to WSB-TV, Bibb County sheriff's deputies arrested Brandon Phillips in 2008 on battery and felony criminal damage. Phillips pleaded guilty to criminal trespassing charges after admitting he destroyed one person's laptop and slashed another person's tires.
A senior communications adviser for the Republican presidential nominee said in a statement, "Today we accepted the resignation of the Trump-Pence campaign's Georgia state director Brandon Phillips. Billy Kirkland, our Georgia senior adviser, will continue to lead the campaign's operations in Georgia."
Phillips was hired on Nov. 2, 2015.
