Sheriff's deputy hurt, suspect hospitalized after Troup County standoff

By The Associated Press

TROUP COUNTY, Ga. (AP) — Georgia authorities say a sheriff's deputy was hit by shotgun pellets and a man was wounded in the shoulder when gunfire broke out at a Troup County home.

Sheriff James Woodruff told WSB-TV that Deputy Michael Hockett was making a welfare check Monday when a man in the home opened fire.

Hockett was treated and released at a hospital.

Deputies were able to talk the suspect out of the home, ending an hours-long standoff. He surrendered shortly before 6:30 p.m. and was taken to a hospital.
