2017-18 school calendar for Hall County includes 'school from home' days

By B.J. Williams
Hall County high school students will have two "school from home" days on the 2017-2018 school calendar, which was approved last week by the county school board.

It's the first time the county has tried "school from home" other than on snow days, and school board chairman Nath Morris said while he is not completely sold on the idea, he was willing to give it a try for at least one year.

"I hope everybody takes it serious - that it is a work from home day and uses it for furthering their education," Morris said prior to the vote. "I know the intent is there and I know it will help our teachers gain some additional professional learning [time]."

The idea was presented to the board members in December. Under the plan, teachers would still report to school to work, while students would have the day off.

The "school from home" days are scheduled for September 27, 2017 and February 28, 2018. Again, high schools would be the only schools included.

The first day of school for students in the upcoming school year will be August 7, 2017.
