Survey is the next step in Gainesville school superintendent search

By B.J. Williams

As the search process moves forward for the new superintendent of the Gainesville City School System, school board members are asking stakeholders to complete a survey about what characteristics they want to see in the next superintendent.

The survey was introduced to teachers and staff on Tuesday, and the survey is now live on the Gainesville City Schools website. Students and community residents, as well as city business owners, are asked to participate in the survey.

School Board Chairman Brett Mercer said at after a board meeting Tuesday night, the survey responses will be a great tool for the Board.

"There are 20 questions and you're able to rank them and the rankings will determine what we, as the Board, will push for in a new superintendent," Mercer said. "This is our chance to give everybody a voice."

Deadline to submit applications for the job is February 3.

The search firm of King-Cooper and Associates is spearheading the search for the Gainesville School Board.

Dr. Wanda Creel is leaving the post at the end of her contract.
